I recently repaired my device using the ifixit replacement screen kit. The new display works perfect but the screen is unresponsive to the touch
Hi Daniel, Let’s check what we can on your replacement screen first. Since there’s only one connector that carries display, touch and fingerprint data, that’s the only thing we have to look at. You’ll want to open the phone back up and using a magnifying glass and a bright light, examine the display connector on the motherboard and the matching plug on the flex cable. You’re looking for missing, broken or bent pins that could be affecting the touchscreen. If you find any bent ones, you may be able to straighten them with some fine tip tweezers. If you don’t find anything there, check the flex cable itself for any signs of damage as in tears, dents or scratches. Next step would be to clean both connectors with 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol; don’t use the 70% stuff we all get from the supermarket; it has additives that aren’t good for electrical connectors. Plug the screen back in and test to see if anything is different. If not, plug the old screen back in and check to see if the touchscreen works. If it does, there is probably an issue with the new screen. In that case you’ll want to get in touch with iFixit support for a replacement. Their screens come with a lifetime guarantee and I’ve found them to be very responsive. You can email them at support@ifixit.com if you need to. Hope that helps; let us know what you find.
