Hello guys! I’m looking to let my iMac 27" Mid 2011 be able to work with HandOff, as the new OS Sierra approaches with new amazing features. I’ve read that it is possible to use Continuity Activation Tool 2.0, but the problem is that I have an Atheros Wifi Card instead of the Broadcom . If I understood correctly, I need to change the Wifi card with a Broadcom one and buy a specific BT dongle and run the CAT to be up and running . Can someone help me with this giving me directions on how to do this? Thanks! =) Update (06/16/2016) Thanks Dan! I’d do the USB dongle + software part as it would be easier but I’ve read that Atheros Wifi Cards will not be compatible :( Thanks for the answer! I’ll check out the kit
Did you review this web site: Continuity Activation Tool? It should answer the software side of the process. As far as the hardware there are now a few kits you can order to upgrade your internal AirPort board to a dual WiFi/Bluetooth and remove the old BT board. Here’s a kit I had used: Apple Broadcom Bcm94360cd - 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC + Bluetooth 4.0 With Adapter For iMac 2009, iMac 2010 and iMac 2011. As you noted you can also just use a BT dongle instead of altering your AirPort board. It’s just a matter of what your needs are.
