My mower has been hard to start since the day I received it 3 years ago. It is a Craftsman YT4000 tractor with a Briggs 24 hp engine. The model number is 917.28856, motor model is 445677, type is 2188-G5, code is 121214YG I have replaced the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, …..no help. I think it may be a fuel problem however the Sears manual has no info about the fuel system and how to adjust the carburetor. Need help. Thanks…
I had the same problem on the identical mower I purchased around the same time. I noticed that it started easily when engine was hot but cold starts were hard. I checked to see if the choke was closing when the throttle was in the choke position and it wasn’t. I opened the hood and closed the choke the rest of the way with my hand. It started immediately. I adjusted the cable position and now it starts first crank every time. Hope this helps. Will
