Hi, I’m trying to recover the files from the mac drive I had on my old laptop which just died. It was a GPU problem, and the drive was still working fine. I tried plugging it to a new IMac 2018 with OSX High Sierra with both an external enclosure and a drive dock but the drive won’t spin, it just makes a clicking sound and sometimes it beeps, I guess it’s not receiving enough power. Just to make sure I hadn’t ruin the drive I put it back in the Macbook, turned it on, and it spins and boots normally (can’t see but you can hear). Any ideas what could be happening or how I could make the drive run as an external drive to recover my files? Thanks!

Sounds like you have a video issue on your old machine. Hook not up to an external monitor. Then turn on your iCloud so that your documents get stored in the Cloud and are accessible to you on your other Apple products.
