Chosen Solution

Hello all, I’m swapping out the upper case of a MBP 15" Retina mid-2012 (A1398 EMC 2512). The part we ordered (and double-checked the accuracy of) has slight differences in machining, especially around the headphone jack and left hinge area (near the magsafe board). See pic:

Has anyone encountered this issue? We’re not sure if we were shipped the wrong part, if this is a shoddy third-party product made incorrectly, or something else we’re not thinking of. Here are the two differences in closer detail. My replacement has no rails to guide and hold the headphone jack component as it screws into the upper case (left image). The original does (right image).

My replacement also has a screw hole with a raised collar next to a flush screw hole. In the original, these holes are switched (see pic below). These screw holes are where the rubber heat sink cover screws in and where the rubber cap covers the screw near the magsafe board. Check the picture, it’ll make a lot more sense when you see it.

Any input is highly appreciated. Thanks, Ross
