Guys, i’m looking at adding another SSD to my SSD only iMac. I understand that when i open up the iMac, the mounting bracket will already be in place. However, since there is no fusion drive (SSD only Mac ordered from apple) the drive mounting screws/pins wont be there to attach the secondary SSD to the brackets. Where can i find those? Any help would be highly appreciated.
Here’s one source for the 3.5” frame screws: iMac 27" Screw, HD Cradle (x2) (12-17)iMac 27" Hard Drive Pins (x2) (12-17) You’ll still need an adapter frame to convert the 3.5” mount to hold you’re 2.5” SATA SSD drive. You will also need a few other sundries iMac Intel 27" (Late 2012-2019) SSD Upgrade Kit and most important the pizza cutter and cards so you don’t damage your display. Follow this guide to get the display off iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Display Replacement With that said you might think about going with an external drive as it maybe easier and offer the performance you are likely looking for. While SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) is fast Thunderbolt is faster! This is one drive I recommend OWC Express 4M2 as it allows you to use cheaper M.2 SSD’s of your choice. Or if you want something smaller and more portable OWC ThunderBlade
I have the same question and I am not sure that it is answered (sorry). Will the left and right mounting brackets be in the iMac if it is a SSD only model? I have a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket but need to know if the iMac comes with the left and right mounting brackets to mount the 3.5" adapter to. Basically I need to know if I need to buy these 2 items: https://www.thebookyard.com/product.php?… and https://www.thebookyard.com/product.php?… To be clear… So if I have a SSD only model (without a 3.5” fusion drive) will the iMac have left and right brackets for the 3.5” adapter frame OR do I have to purchase the left and right brockets? Obviously if there was an included fusion drive then there would be no issue as the brackets would need to be present. Does anyone know?
