I want to replace my HDD with a larger one. I am having some problems with my current HDD like it running slow and making some clicking sounds so I thought it would be best to just replace it. I live in the NYC area. Is there a cheap place I can take it to to get the HDD replaced? Best buy is asking for $50. Do you know of a cheaper place?

Older model MacBook Pros are fairly easy to self install the drive. Look over these steps: MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Models A1226 and A1260 Hard Drive Replacement Don’t become discouraged it is very easy and $50 is a rip off. I do not know anywhere else that would install the drive for free. My advice is to browse www.newegg.com and look for a laptop HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory…. Buy one and do a self install. Hope this helped! -Varsity

I assume thats the labor price and does not include the drive. If so in your area its unlikely you will beat that price unless you replace it yourself. Ralph

Tekserve is probably the best known NYC Mac service store. Here’s their page regarding hard drive replacements/upgrades: http://www.tekserve.com/service/upgrade-… But their website doesn’t list prices – you’ll have to call them for an estimate. But as rj713 says, it’ll be hard to beat a labor cost of $50.
