Newly installed HDD shows up on Disk Utilities but not when I need to select it to install OS X. Do I need to format the HDD? Erase the HDD?
If OS.X isn’t detecting a drive, it means that there’s no partition for OS.X to install to. Format the drive, and try to install again. Good luck!
