Chosen Solution

I have an error code that looks like EcL but the top horizontal line on the E is missing. The washer lets me toggle through different wash modes I.e normal, heavy duty, etc…, but whenever I press start or try to add an extra rinse or choose the self cleaning option it toggles back and forth between the error code. I have tried unplugging the washer, holding the control lock, and doing the maintance recommended in the manual. Nothing has worked or made any changes. The washer model is 796.44162 I have also verified that the LEDs illuminating the digits for letters ‘c’ and ‘L’ in the error code work fully, but I am unable to verify if the first digit for the ‘E’? Fully works. Thanks for your help, Miguel

If your washing machine is showing the t CL error code, this is telling you to run the tub clean cycle. This means the washer is sensing that the tub is not clean and needs to be properly cleaned to function at peak performance. There is a sensor in the washer that senses the tub is dirty. This sends a signal to the display panel where it shows the error code. This error code does not show very often but when it does, it is an easy fix. This error code clearing method simply involves cleaning the tub.

@miguelhi any chance your display is trying to tell you that the error is actually an F/dL? That would be a door lock error. Download the SM from the bottom of this page Kenmore Elite HE3 Washing Machine Repair Page 6-8 will tell you how to run the diagnostics test on your washer.
