A1489 iPad button gets physically stuck, as in no tactile response is felt. It seems to have some rotation, and only clicks down when the square symbol is not rotated too far out of spec. I have tried cleaning it with rubbing alcohol per instructions found online, but I’m not turning up the right search terms as I get false positives with screen rotation issues. What would I look for to fix it when I open it up? Ideally without buying new parts that cost more than a newer device. Thank you.
Hi @lemass Your best bet is to replace the home button and bracket assembly. Replacing that part will require you to open the device by removing the glass digitizer, which could break in the process. I recommend that you replace the whole glass digitizer with a part that has the home button bracket pre-installed, like this one from iFixit. Here’s a look at the replacement guide as well. Best of luck with this repair!
