I have a strange situation. I have 2 iPhone 7 and I am trying to make on out of both:

  1. iPhone 7 32 GB original no parts changed, 2) iPhone 7 128GB, battery replaced screen with 3rd party replaced. The 128GB iPhone has the homebutton working but Touch ID does not work and the screen is not of good quality. My idee was to replace the complete screen incl Homebutton with the 32GB screen. I did this but no matter what I do, on the 128GB the Homebutton is totally unresponsive(Screen and Button original Apple). Obviously I did not break anything because when I put back the screen to the original phone it works perfectly. When I put back the 3rd Party screen on the 128GB the home button works again. I have tried everything I am aware of incl DFU Mode and full restore of the firmware etc … It sounds to me as if the Home Button would be linked to the original phone and would refuse to work on the other phone. Any Idea? Thx

Home button is absolutely irreplaceable starting from iPhone 7. Not just the Touch ID.

Any replacement home button with Touch ID will not work with any other device. The home button is paired with the logic board it originally came from.

with the 6 and 6s, only the Touch ID was linked between button and motherboard. you could pull a home button from on 6/6s and put into another and the home button feature would still work. with the 7/7+ (and i’m guessing the 8/8+ as well) both the home button and the Touch ID are linked to the factory motherboard, if the home button still works but Touch ID is broken, that’s the best you’ll get without an Apple store home button replacement (very pricey). if the home button functionality is broken and you get a 3rd party button, you’ll still be without Touch ID. in this scenario, i recommend JC or YF home buttons found on eBay, there’s also iFixit and injuredgadgets. bottom line is pretty much all parts are interchangeable between 7/7+/8/8+ (within the same model) except the home button. on the plus side, a lot of us are used to iphones before the ever introduced Touch ID so using the passcode is not that big a deal. i personally don’t use touchID. good luck to you
