Chosen Solution
When I select the hot cycle on my Kenmore Elite 796.29272900, it fills up warm. I have disconnected the hot hose at the wall and ran the water into a bucket and it is hot. Thanks for your help.
@dwhome close off the cold water supply and see if it now fills with hot water. This sounds like a water inlet valve issue but could be thermostat/sensor issue. It may also be a cycle issue. Try to select something like Normal/Casual cycle and then select hot to see if that changes.
