Chosen Solution

Hi all, I have a Simpson SWT704 (7.5kg Eziset toploader). Recently the washing machine started to fill only with hot water, even when on a cold wash. I’ve switched over the water pipes (i.e. cold tap to hot water inlet and turned off the hot tap) to the inlet valve so that it now fills with cold water. It works fine otherwise. I assume this to be a faulty inlet valve however before I call out a technician, is there anything else it may be? I’m cautious because the machine is five years old and I may be better off buying a new machine rather than paying someone to find a major fault. Many thanks, Justin

I found this! No cold water going into machine

@justinstory yes this sounds like a failed water inlet valve. Replacing it should fix this. “before I call out a technician, is there anything else it may be” I am certain you could change this yourself and safe your hard earned money. Unless of course you are independently wealthy.

I agree that the inlet valve is the prime suspect. But the first thing I’d check is to see if there’s something clogging the problem inlet. Given that you’ve already switched the hoses, chances are you already checked there. But, if you have old plumbing, or a water source which may not be perfect, and if there’s a there’s screen filter at the point where the hose attaches to the machine, there may be some debris restricting the flow. Again, unlikely, but a simple check and easy fix. Otherwise, I agree with oldturkey03, roll up your sleeves and replace that inlet valve. It always feels great to solve such problems on your own.
