Chosen Solution
I have a dead MBP 2015 with a hopefully working ssd and I’m looking for an affordable solution to access its data and/or boot from it. I currently have a MBP 2019 (which have usb c TB3) So far, I’ve found that the ‘‘‘OWC Envoy Pro’’’ ‘‘is one of the only available solutions (other solutions are just as expensive and can be worse) Is there any more of an affordable solution? hopefully more widely available? was thinking to look for something like a (PCIe->SATA?) adapter and then use the widely-available SATA-Enclosure… but then again, that adapter isn’t available around…
Sorry you can’t use a SATA case. The OWC Envoy Pro is what I would use. The interface Apple uses in your system is a custom PCIe/NVMe which is a very different standard than SATA. Here’s a good diagram that helps explain the different interfaces
The Red line is what a traditional SATA drive uses. Your system has a PCI interface and the given drive you have is NVMe (Purple line). Here’s a bit more on the drives them selves The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs
