Chosen Solution
2 months ago, my laptop was working and when I had it plugged in to charge, it would do its job. Suddenly, the battery indicator said it wasn’t charging. I tried everything except getting it to a repair place to see if they could determine what was going on. It eventually died slowly and it wont turn on. I have important files on there that I need to recover. I took it to apple and they said it had liquid damage. This is a secondhand laptop, so I don’t know when that could’ve been. They also wanted to send it to their repair place in California but they couldn’t guarantee that the files would be saved if they opened up the laptop. They also wanted to charge me an arm and a leg for this. I just want an easy solution that doesn’t cost too much but I don’t know what to do. ill take any advice at this point.
Did you try to take the drive out and use a SATA to USB adapter cable to see if you could access the drive from a second mac? Here’s the IFIXIT guide to take it out: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Hard Drive Replacement and you would need this adapter: Startech 2.5" SATA to USB adapter To access the files you might need a recovery program like this: Data Rescue 5 for Mac
