My wife dropped her iphone 4S in water for about 4-5 seconds. The phone turns on but the display doesnt. I put the phone in a large sandwich bag with rice for about 4 days. The phone is on but i cant see anything. I did a reset by holding down the power button and home button and after a few seconds i can see the display for about ahalf of a second to a second and then it goes black again. i can also hear the siri coming on if i hold the home button down but i dont see anything. Is this iphone still repairable? Please help. Thank you Willie
wilfredo velez, I am with “con” on this one. Rice is a great first aid, but it does not prevent any kind of corrosion. The best thing to do is to stop using the device, (remove the battery) and to totally disassemble it. Then clean it with +90% isopropyl alcohol. This will displace the water and stop corrosion. It it okay to submerge a board in isopropyl alcohol. After that, air dry all the components. Do not forget to clean the connectors on the board as well as the cables. Then re-assemble with a new battery This is not optional but a must to avoid failure later on. " i can see the display for about ahalf of a second to a second" could be backlight circuitry error. Check your board for any missing or damaged component. You could try a new display, but its a bit of a gamble. Water damage is the toughest to trouble shoot and to repair. Hope this helps, good luck.
I don’t understand this rice solution or who made this up but in causes more damage than good cause when water drys on electronics it corrodes. Like why would you put a £400 phone and think rice can fix it.. It’s beyond me.. The phone needs stripped out the motherboard needs all the guards taken off and washed with 99% alcohol then let dry and rebuild phone. If your display isn’t going it could have blowen the backlight or just the screen.. You would be saver just giving to a repair shop cause if your using rice then it’s not the job for you
Yes. The problem is most likely the display assembly. If it still doesn’t work after replacing that, then you have a logic board failure. Also, check for any corrosion around the display assembly connectors. If there is, clean it and your current assembly may work.
It is fatal hurt for a phone that try to turn it on after dropping into water. So I don’t think to can bring it through. The blog list the right approaches to save a phone when it dropped into water : http://newsforsmartphone.blogspot.com/20…
I dropped my phone in a puddle of water on my way home, too. I’m having it held on rice for the moment, I’m taking it at a local iPhone service store later so they can fix it. It works properly. Its the sound that it isn’t coming out, rice works as first aid i think, but to be 100% safe, take it to a service, 50$ it can cost or a little more. At least its better than buying a new one
My iPhone 4S fell int a bucket of water. I removed it immediately. And switched it off. The torch is on and I cannot switch that off. No rice so after shaking out as much water I have left it as it is on a dry towel. I can only take it to the service center tomorrow after 12 hours.
