I have an hp computer that was given to use but it has a password that no one knows on it. We were able to use it for a little while then it locked and now we are needing a file off of the computer. How can I get it to unlock without wiping the files out?
most windows computer are set up as online account based as default. the original owner will have to go through microsofts password reset to change password and obtain any files associated with the account. no way around it. this is to protect owners privacy in case of stolen hardware. you can set up a local account or another online account to regain use of the device by performing a factory reset through recovery mode or by using installation media for windows or another os. this will wipe the hard drive but this will not affect any files on the previous owners online account as they are synced to one drive by default. (unless owner disabled).
