I just replaced the glass on my 3G and am wondering what products I can use to clean the lcd panel itself before I reassemble as I am betting it is very important this is perfectly clean.
You are right, it is important to make sure the LCD is clean. Anything that is stuck to it will be clearly visible when you reassemble. Use a microfiber cloth to clean off the LCD, canned air is useful too. You can find both of these at most hardware stores. It is also important to work in a clean, dust-free environment. Make sure you do all that and you should be fine. Good luck!
you can replace the spring with a flintstone spring of a disposable lighter - of course only a short part of the spring. cut the spring to the lenght you need and solder it to the logic board. maybe you should stretch the spring a little bit before you cut it, that way it will be a little bit more flexible.
The actual LCD panel not the front glass :( unfortunately.
I used yet another clean cloth and that seemed to get rid of everything. Re-assembled the phone and the touch screen works and looks great! But now my home button doesn’t work :(. After re-disassembling I found one of the tiny sensitive little spring contacts for the button had broken off inside the phone. I think the only way to fix it is to solder a pin about 1/16th inch long onto the contact to get it to press against the other contact point on the phone. Otherwise I could tear off the digitizer and glass I just replaced and replace the whole home button assembly…
