My MacBook will power up but will not accept any passwords..(locked out in on all attempts)..I used a start-up and inatall discs, but it will reboot pass the password..Am I in need of a logic board??
If the machine comes back to the log in screen when booting from the install CD, holding the “C” key down, then it did not boot from the CD. It is booting from the internal hard drive. Clean the CD and insert it with the machine off, it will not go all the way in. Turn the machine on and immediately push the CD in and hold the C key down until it finishes booting.
Try connecting it to another mac via target disk mode and re-install OS X from the other mac onto you MacBook.
To completely reset Mac OS X, you will need to boot into single user mode (Command-S upon chime) and type the following commands (Without the quotes) “fsck -fy” “mount -uw” “rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone” This will delete all users, yet all data will be in ~/Users/[your old account name] after this is done, it will take you through initial setup again. Note: there is a space between “rm” and “/var/db/.AppleSetupDone”
