how do I connect together my new 27" quad i5 imac to my 2006 macbook pro

Use a firewire cable and connect the two machines then start one of them up holding down the “T” key. This is called target mode. The hard drive icon of the “T” machine will show up on the desktop of the second machine.

that don’t work. new imacs have a different firewire cable from the 2006 macbook’s. ethernet cable or wireless is the only thing i have found so far. Update the 2006 macpro was available with both or either firewire 400 and firewire 800 ( at different points of the year). the 2006 macbook and several of the macbook pro’s only had the 400. the 2011 imac has firewire 800 only. ergo: firewire 400 and 800 don’t fit.

Mayer is right, use an adapter cable. Depending on what you want to achieve you can always use the simple file sharing over the network. You’ll find it in system preferences and it works a snap.
