I am driving my boyfriend’s 1997 GMC Suburbanwhile he is out of town. My turn signals and brake lights do not work but my tail lights work. How can I fix this ASAP? I just got a ticket for defective equipment for $130 so i gotta fix it quickly.
It could be a fuse which is either under the dash or on left side of the dash inside the driver’s door. But it sounds like the turn signal switch. The brake lights go through the turn switch. I believe this has the plastic cover on the steering column. You need to remove the screws that hold it together, they are on the bottom. Pop that in half and you will see how the switch screws on the the steering column. It uses torx screws. You will have a unplug the wire harness from the bottom of the steering column and then tape a piece of mechanics wire to the wire harness then pull up the wire harness toward the switch. Once you have it out untape it and tape the wire to the new switch and pull the harness down the steering column and reverse the procedure.
