So my fathers friend sent his old iPhone 5 to my dad. He removed icloud and everything and factory resetted it. The phone has everything unlocked except it’s simlocked. And We can’t “activate”. We and that dad’s friend live in different countries so going to buy the same carrier that he used in the past to put it in the iphone to activate it, is a bit complicated and I don’t even know what carrier he used anymore. what are my options? How do i remove the simlock? I looked in the internet about that but I couldn’t find any answers , how do i jailbreak? can i remove a simlock with a jailbroken iphone? I haven’t used iphones much myself because they were a bit overpriced for me but my dad wants to use it. Asking a carrier to unlock it would cost us too much currently. I mean it would be cheaper to buy that iphone version on ebay then paying to unlock it xD please help me…

hrm. Im in canada, and since they passed the law to force unlocks for free, i havent seen to many jailbroken phones come through here. The program you use is based on your iOS. so which revision of iOS is your phone using? “##.#.#”

Unfortunately you will not be able to jailbreak a phone while it is not activated. You need to be able to get to the home screen to perform many of the jailbreaks available today. Also the only way to sim unlock an iPhone is to go back to the phone’s original carrier and request it to be unlocked.
