My screen is cracked on my Kindle Fire 7" HDX and I’d like to replace it, but i’m having trouble even getting the case open. There also don’t seem to be any guides on how to do this with an HDX.

Hi Alison, Watch the start of the teardown video as a reference. There is a strip of plastic on the back that needs to be removed as a first step. It is shiny and has holes in for the speakers. It is held in place by tabs on the ends and adhesive especially off from the center of the strip. Use a safe open pry tool, isesamo, or a spudger to release the tabs and start peeling the plastic strip away from the kindle body.

Just finished a screen replacement guide for the HDX. Check it out!

A flat head screw driver will work just put it on the end of the back and pry open on each side

On the Kindle one on the Kindle to need to take off the screen to replace the battery. How do I do this. There is no way to take the back off. This Kindle is all one piece. Thank you Tony
