Ok how do I open my LG Tromm DLG8388NM gas dryer to access the motor… FYI I already have the top off. Been using my dryer for about a month this way… btw (the dryer hasn’t been this clean since I brought it 12plus years ago) I told my wife it has to be vacuumed cleaned after each use this way or it will start a fire. I know it’s my fault I didn’t pay 100% attention to the LG tech when he came out to change my rollers…. So please help!!!

Hi @manzo68, A humming motor that continues to run after it has been “helped” to start is usually a sign that either the start capacitor is faulty or the start winding in the motor is faulty. It is a bit hard to measure the start winding with an Ohmmeter as it is internally connected in parallel to the run winding via a centrifugal switch inside the motor assembly. The switch operates when the motor is up to speed and disconnects the start winding as it can now operate on the run winding only. More economical as there is less current required. Also start winding uses thin wires which heat quickly, so you don’t want it powered on for too long and run winding has thicker wires for long operating times The start winding is only used to help provide sufficient magnetism (along with the run winding) to overcome the inertia of the motor in the at rest position and to rotate the motor armature and get to the designed operating speed. The capacitor (if it has one) is the cheaper option to try first, especially as you can disconnect and measure it (to a degree anyway) to see if it is OK. Here’s the service manual which may help.
