Hello, I’ve seen questions answered on how to replace the optical drive of a mid-2007 iMac with an SSD, but I haven’t seen any related to how to make use of the spare SATA port instead of the slow ATA 100 port. Any ideas?
Sadly, this series does not offer a spare SATA port on the logic board. Your only option is to use a PATA to SATA converter unit which fits into the optical drive bay. As you know the PATA interface is quite slow! Frankly, I would just replace the HDD with a SSD and use an external FireWire 3.5” HDD case to hold your current HDD. Do keep an eye on the costs and the limits of this system. You don’t want to invest too much as it’s getting hard to get spare parts if something fails.
