I had a power surge and my washer won’t spin or agitate how do I find out if the lid switch is bad? I have a hotpoint washer model number HSWP1000M4WW
Hi @subway1 , Here’s the mini manual for the washer. The wiring diagram shows the lid switch connections so that you can test if it is OK or not. Test using an Ohmmeter with the power disconnected from the machine to see if you lose the short circuit from terminals 5 & 6 on the board when the switch is operated. Alternatively, connect the meter to the lid switch itself and check what happens when you operate/release the lid switch It also shows the motor inverter board status indicator lights codes which may also help to find out why it is not agitating or spinning. With most machines if the lid switch is faulty it won’t start to fill with water first before beginning to agitate but maybe yours does a “dry” agitate to settle the clothes first, before adding water, I don’t know.
Before anything else UNPLUG THE WASHER FROM THE WALL. Take a look at the lid and see if there is a little magnet attached. Looks to me the lid switch is controlled by magnets. If that is missing then most likely to be the problem. Also it could be the drain pump jammed up with a sock or something like that. if you are going to check that then have a shop vac handy because there is lots of water in the lines even after the wash is completed. Here is a link for the exploded view of the washer and you can see the internal parts. https://www.reliableparts.ca/lookup/2363…
