My CPU fan is loose and rattling like crazy in it’s casing. I figured out how to open the casing and get to the fan but I can’t tighten it. How do I tighten it? Is it just the bearings and it’s shot?
Could be a bad bearing or loose or missing retainer screws. We would need your exact model number to attempt finding the part. These are usually under $20.
You can try to remove the fan, clean it inside and put a drop of oil in the center. But if it has a traverse backlash, then it is very likely that it catches its body and makes extraneous noise. Anyway in most cases this won’t help, and the fan must be replaced, but they isn’t so expensive.
