“The Chrome System recovery is in progress…” has been going for over six (6) hours. How long does it typically take?

According to my Chromebook C300 that has been recovering for a thirty minutes or so “This will take a few minutes….” GAH! Update (06/18/2017) I did eventually break down and call Asus. They told me that the recovery process usually took around an hour but could take up to two hours for the Chromebook C300.

In the chrome OS is mssing or damaged screen press CTRL D Then press Enter repeatedly until it shuts down then try recovering again CAUTION This will delete all of your data

I let mine run in recovery mode overnight. When it was still going the next morning,I finally powered off and did three reboots (hard). I had already tried 3-4 times the night before but on my Asus c300 had to press Escape +refresh button then Power button to turn on. Tried doing just the refresh and the power button that was recommended on another site but didn’t work on my model. Finally put some patience I’ll let it go on the third try and waited the prompt saying to take my thumb drive out finally appeared. It takes some patience and persistence. Someone on a another site said you might have to do this 20 or more times maybe to get it to reset. Frustrating but at least I didn’t have to resort to pulling my hard drive out. My laptop had been out for a year and I pretty much just used my phone and a backup tablet. It’s good to have it back.

Has anyone ever completed the system recovery or is this a lost cause? I did not have this computer very long and it just crashed! I let it set for a while until I YouTubed how to fix the issue!

Ah, no. I have let recovery run overnight several times, and it has still never finished. Bad news.
