My computer recently alerted me that I need to service my battery. It may have to do with a small amount of coffee I spilled on my computer a few weeks ago, not sure. Because I cannot afford to go long without my computer, I figured it would be safest to order a replacement battery now and store it for when my current battery fails. My only concern, ironically, is if my current battery doesn’t fail soon. Is there any way to find out how likely that is to happen? If I purchase a replacement battery, will it still be as good in a year or two? Any special considerations for storing it? Thanks!
I would recommend you get your system serviced soon as while the coffee you spilled has dried the corrosive elements within the coffee are slowly eating way your system (acids & sugars). I’ve had systems that had fungus growing off of the sugar drink that was spilled and other which had chips eaten through by the acids. Not including all of the corrosion the wetness created. If you only had a few tea-spoons spilled and you managed to wipe it up you maybe OK, if 1/4 or 1/2 of your cup of coffee spilled then you have big problems hidden inside. At this point I would recommend you install this app: CoconutBattery it’s a great free app that will give you the run down on your systems battery. Paste a screenshot here (answer) of the main screen so we can see what it’s telling you. As far as the spare battery I’ve had a few sitting on the shelf for at least a year so I won’t worry about that. But before you get it lets see what your battery state is and I would recommend you open the system to make an inspection to see how bad the coffee spill was. If you see something take a good picture and paste it here for us to see.
