Chosen Solution

Hi, a few weeks ago I went in to the usual third-party repair shop to get my battery on my iPhone 5s replaced. They did that but noticed my phone still wasn’t charging properly so they replaced it again but still not charging right. It was then they they saw that the IC chip wasn’t working well because of how old the phone is. That wasn’t a repair they offered so there was nothing they could do. I called around a few places about IC chip replacement, some said it wasn’t worth it, others said doing that might cause other problems. IS there anywhere that can do this type of thing? Can I do it? Or do I have to bite the bullet and get a new phone? Thanks in advance.

If repair is more than $25 then it is cheaper to buy a damage Iphone 5S (for example a damage screen and backhousing, there are logic boards on chinees website for $10-15$) and transfer the logic board and home button to your iphone.

Hi Cinae79, Replacing the IC chip is something that is doable, although you will need a reworking heat gun, a soldering station, and other materials and parts that if you do not already own, can render this fix very non-cost-effective. You can see the process in this video. As you can see, it’s a very technical fix and needs a lot of specialized tools. You can do an online search for iPhone motherboard repair and/or iPhone IC replacement and some websites will pop up with options. Depending on how much it costs, you will have to weigh if it’s worth it to perform the repair or buy a new phone.
