Chosen Solution
– Roku does not provide a user-configurable “off switch” for WiFi Direct. – It’s on all the time, even in models such as the current Roku 2 that doesn’t come with a remote control that uses WiFi Direct. – Roku’s WiFi Direct often interferes with other WiFi devices. – Many people do not have a 5 GHz WiFi router to which to seek refuge. We need a wire to snip or something that will disable it.
I don’t know about 2.4ghz interference (that spectrum is unusable where I live due to overcrowding) but I was able to solve the problem in 5ghz and I suspect this will fix it in 2ghz too http://www.netconsonance.com/2016/06/how…
I just realized my new Roku box does NOT have an IR remote. It is RF remote. So I guess I can NOT turn off the wireless network, or the remote will no longer work.
I have the same problem, I have a 5GHz WiFi and my solution is to unplug it until I want to use it. I can’t find any other way.
Roku Premiere has a Wired and Wireless setting. I use Netgear Powerlines in electric outlets .. and don’t have any wi-fi in the house. Works great. Buy an Arris SB8200 modem .. don’t use Spectrum’s. Arris has wireless models. You can buy on amazon.
I have been having the same problem - Roku 2 is broadcasting beacons even though it is on Wired mode. I was able to fix it by doing two things: Use Logitech Harmony remote - if you configure it for Roku, then it uses the old IR codesGo into the secret menu (Home 5x, FF, down, Rew, down, FF) and then select secret Wireless options, there is an option for “P2P Stop” - it tells you this disables RF remote - I did that.Checked Wireshark - no more beacons!
