Anyone know how to disassemble the iridium 9575? I only found two screws on the back and not able to separate it to two parts. I tried to search any tutorial online but only found the following pic. It looks like there are another two screws on the top side. But I didn’t see them on the back.

To whom it may concern regarding the repair of the iridium 9575 Extreme satellite phone , the picture you posted above is our custom picture to help people know that us at NorthernAxcess Satellite Communications are the main iridium authorized repair center for North America and beyond. Unfortunately the 9575 Extreme is not able, or allowed to be disassembled without the proper repair center and or the machinery to make it back to its original IP65 water resistant, jet spray resistant, shock proof such state. So because of this we both offer specialized based iridium replacement programs and more to get a like new phone updated with all new features and software. We used to repair them the way mentioned above with our machinery however we have now worked out a program that more cost efficient than trying to repair yourself or through anyone else. In the past such as the picture example above myself as the senior tech and our other techs would spend hours to disassemble and likewise put back together so that it was perfectly back to it original state. However the biggest problem besides labor intensive efforts was the fact that most parts are integrated together. What this means is that if your having a signal problem and it turns out to be the antenna then you not only need the antenna but an entirely new back housing that integrated around the antenna. So if you do your homework on the price of some of even the older antennas like the 9505A their prices at around $200-250, then you have to add the entire back housing to that plus the Very in depth labor and it’s now not worth the cost to repair. Although you may call us through our site @northernaxcess and we can perform some repairs here in-house that are cost efficient. But a word of advice ,….if you try to open it , then most without the machinery end up breaking it somehow, and i can tell you there are allot of ways to break it! But most noteworthy of all is that once you do try to open it your phone is now automatically voided of any warranty ( which I’m sure you know ) , but The other thing is that once separated like that you cannot get qualified to get a replacement like new device with a 90 day warranty that also has the new, updated features and etc. all lower than the price of anything you will ever find on eBay, used, or more. So I highly advise using some of the advise and if needed , give us a call to let us know what the issues are on the phone(s) and we can get you taken care of correctly and efficiently. We continue to do immense study’s and tests on all the new models or still manufacturerd satellite phones with iridium every month to make things better and better such as the 9575, 9555, iridium GO, 9505A, and more. Just to note our picture that you posted above is basically just to let our clients know that we are an iridium authorized Repair Center and is for educational purposes only and not at all to study or induce anyone to try and take it apart. Also the screws you mentioned on the back are not even half of what has to be done to take it apart efficiently without breaking the sensitive parts connected inside. You can contact us to discuss. We are all technicians and would be glad to help you with taking care of you the right way. You may also call iridium themselves and they would be glad to likewise give you our information. You can also start by calling us, and discuss with our techs and if if you feel like continuing by sending them in you can then review our Repairs Page and review steps. Sincerely, Jeremy Carter VP Senior Tech NorthernAxcess

You can open the phone very easily. You are right, there are still two screws on top of the device. If you remove the thin cover on the front as shown, you can open the two screws. What was previously on the GPS antenna is not correct. You can easily open and close the case. Make sure that the cable of the keyboard is not damaged. In some models there is no cable on the keyboard, only contacts. that depends on the version of the iridium 9575.

Jörg, as a tech in a specific field. Everything I said is something to help others not to do this because there are too many ways for them to break it and lose everything they ended up spending on a satellite phone that costs much more than a cellphone. Again its nice that that you think your trying to help , and I believe you know us. The things you dont don’t say is that why would someone even try to open it if they don’t have the correct parts to fix it, or if they open it and water damage is presented then the customer now has zero chance of being helped by an Authorized Repair Center. I have been helping other companies in this field for many years not to make money but to give them ways of getting their satellite phones fixed in a cost effective manner, and educate on use. I understand everyone has their own freedom to do things as they wish, & that is a choice for all. At the same time, that why there are mechanics in many fields,….and Is there always an easy way to tell someone how to bore out the top of their engine, or even change something like a timing chain ( not a timing belt ), or all the other small parts that can cause other breakdown if done without certain experience. Because of that experience I can’t speak as if every mechanic is out there to spread lies, or keep secrets. But in reality most of us go to a mechanic for special or specific jobs, or someone that can help diagnose your car before it’s opened up and does more damage in the future? That is a small example of what we do. So like that example , things must be thought of unselfishly sometimes when providing answers for reasons like does the part need to come off ?,…or if they do remove it , then what can happen, or do they have the availability to the actual part or parts that’s causing the problem?, or what if the problem is simple and you have just given information that ends up letting them ruin their life saving phone? So just as certain cars, cellphones, or other machines & electronics have many stages of growth so do these devices, & these devices are made for longevity, w/ more precise ways to protect the one that owns it. I also understand some of your thoughts on so-called financial gain, but just as a mechanic is necessary, or a doctor is necessary, do you think they must do it all for free? It’s a profession, so of course money must be made for labor or parts put into it, but at least the customers , clients, we have are extremely pleased with what they get back & have never argued of cost, because it’s something that we put the correct amount of love into so they know we are here to help. Not only do we provide assistance, but from what we learn from things we see in the field goes back to helping support in making future models even better over the years by communicating with the actual manufacturer. So as you noted there are different types, there are other differences, and things might continue to grow and change in this area Everyone has the right to do something themselves. I understand. Although after the many years of doing what I do , I see more ones that have tried to do this, and end up just sending it to us to fix, then ones that have succeeded in any long term fixes. We spend hours each day explaining why things broke down, and helping people get educated in satellite communication, and unlike mechanics, developers, lawyers, consultants, and many more,…We don’t charge for our time to help them understand, or troubleshoot things before they repair them , or for the consultation. Its a long term profession that in this particular case requires a bit more finesse, care, and extended learning even on my part every day. Good luck to you, and your efforts, and I’m sorry you feel the way you do on the subject, but sometimes there are more explanations for things than just digging in without background knowledge of certain things. I’m assuming that is why schooling, training, or just many years of even on the job experience are things that help guide, and assist in the uncertain of where your going. Im sure you know this is why there are professions in many areas . I can honestly tell you that the time we put into these things do not make us even close to large living. That kind of money is left to the cellphone ( NOT Satellite Phones ) companies or laptop manufacturers. If you feel differently, and would like to understand, then you can sign some temporary employee type paperwork of ours, and I would welcome you to come spend a bit with us at some point, to do some on job support to see the amount of time, and support is given not just on this satphone, but even all the older ones for clients that we help that don’t have as much money to get new ones. So we help keep them going, and do our absolute best in a field that is just starting to rapidly grow, and requires more educating , and less guesstimating, if you know what I mean. Speaking of making money as you mentioned,…you never said how it is you make your living. Im guessing you make a living somehow, yes? And all jobs have a certain amount of things that are required for them to survive, correct? Some painstakingly so,….unless of coarse someone is just inherently or independently wealthy. I did notice the city in your photo looks allot like a familiar city & maybe close , so feel free to call or email us if you would like to actually talk to me in person Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and please don’t get me wrong in the fact that I do respect yours. We are just sincerely speaking on our own opinions from experience, and not as our business, or any type of title to protect the ones spending their money on these life saving devices Thank you for the conversation, and I do look forward to maybe talking or meeting one day.

We are a private satellite phone repair business based in Australia. . I can sympathise with the OP regarding tearing down the 9575s : they are not particularly easy for sophomores. . the most common issue we have encountered in the past three years is undoubtedly broken antennas : most commonly the tilt swivel on the crown of the antenna rail. . Second most common is the guide tab breaking off inside the phone which allows the antenna to spin on its axis, which eventually fractures the Hirose W.FL coaxial cable assembly, reducing or even eliminating the ability of the phone from receiving satellite signal. . Initially we were purchasing Hirose W.FL coaxial cable assemblies from a German supplier and repairing them, but this produced incosistent results for clients, so we designed and began 3D printing a replacement antenna module with a more robust tilt swivel, improved o-ring gasket and a better quality Hirose W.FL coaxial cable assembly than the OEM versions fitted to the phones. . These are available as a kit from us, including an improved body gasket to restore IP66 rating to the phone. . Tearing down the phone, the most common issue we encountered initially was breaking the four lock tabs on the lower shell. . To cater for this we produce a repair kit with full instructions, a pry bar and IP66 rated sealant to remove and replace the front escutcheon, an adhesive guide label which marks the location of the four locking tabs, a pair of spludgers to release the locktabs, a pair of 3D printed, improved heavy duty silicone case gaskets to reseal the case to IP66 rating, and a T4 and T6 torx precision screwdriver which caters for all the screws in the 9575. . The instruction sheet shows how to pry the escutcheon off, how to locate the four case screws (two under the escutcheon, one in the battery compartment, one under a rubber seal), and how to release the four case lock tabs without breaking them. . We are currently also working on an improved remanufactured aftermarket SOS button module, with a tighter fitting security cap and better IP66 rated gasketting surrounding the case ingress. This should be available mid year….

Though this may seem like a right thing by words, I can tell you that anything that’s 3rd party to any iridiums Authorized parts are not something that’s warranted. this is also something in which the process in which your speaking of how to put the phones back together is still not a correct IP65 rated seal that is needed. so without any authorized parts, then anything that happens to the phone afterwards or during would be non warranted. please be careful with any items or directions like this from any facility that is not an authorized repair center. there is one authorized repair center in Australia that I believe is called JNB, however I have never spoke with them directly and cannot speak for their experience, I do know that iridium has them there for these types of things. Feel free to call iridium first your closest repair center.
