jsnyen, this is usually a docking error. Check your dock connector for any broken, bend or corroded pins or debris. You can try to use isopropyl alcohol and an old toothbrush to clean the dock connector. If that does not work then you’ll need to replace the dock connector. in the iPhone. Here is the guide for it. Of course, you do want to make sure that you charger is appropriate and that you have a working cable. Some aftermarket cables can cause this as well. Hope this helps, good luck.
I think the culprit is within their updates which allow Apple to make whatever they want obsolete and control how often you want to buy the newest Iphone. Yes We are all stupid to think otherwise
Like U I also Had This Problem so I Juzt Bought a New Apple 3GS Charger(Not real its just a Local Brand) And Connect It. It Works…….! Note:- U Have to Jailbreak It Before U Done This…….! I Hope This Works For You………………………….!

I have changed the charging port and the battery on my 3GS wiped and reinstalled os I still have the problem. I have no idea what else to try.
