My picture is black in the right hand side of the screen and then some discolored lighter picture then it looks fine on the rest of the tv what would most likely be have to be replaced and how do you fix it

More than likely you have a bad panel. I have seen LCD tv’s have this issue as they get older. Seeing that you have a 42" Samsung Plasma, I’d suspect your tv is close to 8 to 10 years old. With TV’s as cheap as they are now, I highly doubt it would be cost effective to fix.
