Greetings. So, the headphone jack and 1 USB 3.0 port (out of the 2) on my R558UR are not working. The USB port, SD card reader and the jack are on the same ‘panel’ or ‘chip’ (See picture). The headphone jack had stopped working quite a while ago. Yesterday, I opened the laptop first time in 4 years to clean it, when I reassembled the laptop, I found out that the USB port on the right side had stopped working. After some researching, My guess is that the USB port is not getting any power. I took it to the repair shop, they told me that the entire ‘panel’ or ‘chip’ has to be replaced, and they are quoting me a very exorbitant amount. But, the thing is that the SD card reader is still working fine, so was USB port, before I cleaned the laptop, and they are on the same panel. So, my question is how do I fix the USB Port and headphone jack on this laptop. My apologies for the big wall of text. Just wanted to explain the problem in detail. EDIT: Added clearer and closer picture of the board’s QR Code label. Correction [17/12/20] : You are right @jayeff, it is a USB 2.0 port. not a 3.0
Hi @th3_goodf3lla , Did you disconnect the battery from the motherboard, before “cleaning” the laptop? Re the USB port is not getting any power: Did you prove that there is no power on the port by plugging in a mobile phone to see if it was charging or connecting a USB mouse and the laser light turned on? If so, did you check the USB power management setting, Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power in Device Manager to see that the setting is unchecked? Here’s an image from my desktop PC showing where the setting is located. It will be the same in yours although the hardware is obviously different. Go to Device Manager > click on the > symbol next to Universal Serial Bus Controllers to expand the list of entries > right click on USB root hub entry (do all if more than one) > Properties > Power Management > uncheck the box as shown in the image > OK Restart the laptop and check if the USB port charges a phone and hopefully recognizes it.
(click on image to enlarge for better viewing) Have you visually inspected the USB port using a strong light and a magnifying glass to ensure that all the pins are there and that they are straight and parallel with each other and not bent or broken or missing? Can you provide a close up image of the board’s QR code label as the Asus part number may be printed on it and using that you may be able to get a replacement board and install it yourself, if it is the board that is and not the motherboard power supply for the USB ports. Update (12/16/2020) Hi @th3_goodf3lla The IO board part number is 60NB0BG0-I01030 (supplier example only). There aren’t too many out there though when searching for the part number. Also on the board was the number X556UV IO Rev 3.1 which made me wonder if it was also compatible with an Asus X556UV laptop This supplier of parts for your model laptop https://en.accessoires-asus.com/audio-bo…|l doesn’t have the part in stock at the moment but lists the part number as 90NB0BG0-R10010 which is the same number as the part for the Asus X556UV laptop from the other supplier above, so maybe they are compatible. If this is the case searching online for 90NB0BG0-R10010 may get you other suppliers that might suit you better. If replacing the board doesn’t solve the problem (and hopefully fix your headphone audio problem as well) what is the “board number” of the motherboard? If you search online for (insert motherboard board number) schematic sometimes you can get lucky and find it and this will help you to track where the USB power supply is coming from on the motherboard. Also I’m a bit confused as you said that the port is a USB 3.0 According to the user manual it is a USB 2.0 and not a USB 3.0 but maybe that’s because the manual is just a general one for the laptop series
