I am having trouble removing the bump knob on my Ryobi RY40002 trimmer. I need to remove it because the line is stuck inside. With pliers, the knob will rotate and click, but that is all. It does not loosen. Any hints, tips?

Had same problem. Bump knob unscrews clockwise (because of head rotation) not counterclockwise. I first turned it counterclockwise and when I realized it should be clockwise it would only turn freely without unscrewing. Finally I managed to force two flat head screw drivers under the rubber bump knob followed by a pry bar and successfully pried the rubber bump knob straight up off a 1/2” hex head bolt. The bolt was then very easily unscrewed with a socket and ratchet but any wrench will do as this was the easy part. The mechanism for the trimmer line can then be removed. There is a youtube video on the rest.
