I plugged my iPad 2 one morning, and at the same evening, it just couldn’t open anymore. Actually, a grey bar is flowing horizontally through the screen, a bit like in this picture I found on the net (http://i.imgur.com/bKyaJ9F.jpg) but under this grey bar, there is a total black screen. I can’t open any app, it’s just totally not responding when I tap on the home button, except to show me this gracious grey bar. When I went to the App Store, they just told me it was a graphic chip/card problem, which just died. And of course, they couldn’t help me without getting my whole wallet in return. Any suggestion ? :/

The lcd cable is likely the culprit. You can try smacking it on the back a few times. If that doesn’t work you may have to have the screen removed and the lcd cable reseated. Be sure to power it off before attempting this, or have a reputable repair shop do it for you.
