Chosen Solution
Short story, my rear main camera on my HTC one m8 is faulty. I bought an oem replacement and will soon take apart my phone. Question is, how do I get the rear camera out of the duo camera set up? I know how to take out the motherboard etc, but In photos of teardowns it seems that the rear camera and the extra duo camera sensor are connected together, and I am unsure how to remove my faulty main camera and then install the correct one. If any body knows what needs to be plugged in or can present theories of what is needed to be connected for re-installation I would be very thankful. Thanks.
Hi Landon, I had the exact same problem! My camera stopped working after I went for a 100KM bike ride. The vibrations broke the OIS. Very disappointing. I ordered a new module here: http://www.etradesupply.com/htc-one-m8-b… Their stuff is 100% legit OEM parts. So I ordered in the camera, than took apart the M8 by watching this tutorial on YouTube: https://youtu.be/CJtVKlmEbcU The rear camera and the extra duo camera sensor are NOT connected together. There is a piece of hard copper tape and glue holding both camera sensors in place in the metal frame. A little heat and exacto blade did the trick. From there I put the phone back together and everything worked perfectly!
Hope this helps! -Roman @romanakozak on twitter
Hi Roman, when you replaced the camera did you receive a ‘duo camera is blocked’ message? As I replaced the screen on my M8 and get this message now. Apparently the duo camera needs to be calibrated once it gets disconnected from the motherboard or top board and this can only be done using HTC software. Update (01/11/2016) Sadly I didn’t manage to sort this, suppose just have to love with it.
Same problem for me
Hi abdul. As you said the camera needs to recalibrated. Can you please tell me which htc software is required, & how to do it?
my M8 rear camera is also blurry and makes a ‘buzzing’ sound when trying to focus.. would you believe problem is resolved for me when i turn the phone upside down?? (also works in landscape when the front htc logo is on left, but not on right!!).. all this time and effort looking for a solution.. although it’s not a permanent fix, it’s a temporary solution that might work with others experiencing the same problem.. TM
