Hi, I spilt half a cup of tea over my MBA keyboard, turned it off and let it dry out for about a week. It would still turn on but the keyboard didn’t work, then eventually it wouldn’t turn on at all & the power cord wouldn’t charge it either. Took it to an authorised repair shop who told me almost everything except the SSD was fried and that total repair cost would be about $1400 AUD, and my best bet would probably to get a new one rather than pay for it to be repaired, so I ended up I buying a refurbed MBA for about $350 cheaper. The repairer got all of my files and documents onto a portable hard drive but I didn’t think to ask about getting them to wipe everything off it. Is there a way to do this when it won’t turn on at all, so that I can sell it for parts/to whoever would possibly buy it? It’s still connected to my iCloud account but would that clear all my documents etc off it? Thanks
Easy way, when you have inside some sensitive data is take the ssd or hdd out and finish… i see too much macbook air/pro with water damage, but like 75% of them have only keyboard broken….and without/defekt keyboard not possible powerbutton… but you can try make jumper on motherboad, exist one place, when ypu make short simulated turn on button
A tech would put the stick into a OWC Envoy enclosure to access it. There are about three different ones for different year models. Personally I keep them for external drives as they are light weight and very fast. If you don’t want to go to the expense, ask you tech to wipe it for you in his enclosure.
