HP 8470w. Keyboard key “k” not responding. SHIFT keys producing “z” and “q”, respectively. After problem arose, BIOS has been updated, but did not solve the problem. External USB keyboard works.

Must be a regional setting. Check if the wrong keyboard layout is selected. Most common is US international, check the keyboard layout of your laptop if That’s your layout. Some countries use a different layout, but it requires a corresponding keyboard.
I would say that Eelco has the most likely solution. However, it’s also possible that you have a bad keyboard. Has anything ever been spilled onto the keyboard, such as coffee or cola? Has the laptop ever been dropped? Have you ever disconnected the keyboard’s cable from the motherboard, then reconnected it? Something may have gotten damaged in the process – perhaps one of the tiny clips which holds the keyboard cable in its socket.
Try going to device manager and double click keyboard then right click and uninstall then restart ur pc or laptop
