Huge Apfs Volume Vm How Can I Resize Imac 27 2017

I took out an old 240GB SanDisk SSD to use in an enclosure as my Time Machine backup. I reformatted to APFS and wow! The “APFS Volume VM” is 17.2GB! No success making it smaller. Suggestions and ideas please.
